| Sarah Jane Ross: Autumn Newsletter What a glorious autumn we had! A particular highlight for me was delivering a commissioned ‘Cerne Abbas Giant’ painting to The Woodman Inn, Bridport – a piece of PUB-lic art! I also spent a night in a lighthouse on the Isle of Portland (during a gale!), which was a fantastic photography and sketching opportunity. I visited the Cezanne exhibition at Tate Modern recently, which is thoroughly recommended if you’re in London. Dorset AONB The Dorset AONB ‘Stepping into Nature – Your Seasons of Stories’ project ended in November and has been a wonderful, nourishing, learning experience, especially working alongside another visual artist, a poet, a storyteller, graphic designer and filmmaker. It has been fantastic to work with so many different community groups, all across Dorset, reflecting on nature using art, poetry and stories. Most of the sessions I co-delivered during Autumn were in libraries, which was a lovely environment to work in! Over the last few months we’ve been painting still life apples (while singing along to Dorset dialect poet William Barnes’ ‘Linden Lea’), using ‘Brusho’ pigments to create Poppies, looking at the work of the ‘Group of Seven’ (Canadian artists) and using a palette knife – so lots of new experiences for residents!
